The main goal of the Sámi Education Institute (SAKK) is to preserve and develop Sámi culture, languages and traditional livelihoods. SAKK carries out international cooperation, especially with the indigenous peoples of the Arctic region. The main area of operation comprises the circumpolar Arctic region. This goal is prioritized in accordance with the educational institution's project and international activity strategies. Over the years, SAKK has implemented numerous national and international training and development projects.
The educational institution's resources are limited, so participating in research and development work and organizing visits to educational institutions usually require external funding.
Our educational institute is a popular place to visit, so with regard to visits, please note that the uninterrupted operation of the educational institution and work peace must be secured. In addition to that, several of our studies and project activities are linked to the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, its transmission and protection. With regard to these, special cultural sensitivity must be observed, which often means that, for example, permission must be requested separately for photographing and interviewing our students. However, we are not always able to respond to visit requests.
SAKK prioritizes its own stakeholders and project cooperation partners in terms of visits. Regarding contacts, we hope for direct contacts without intermediaries. Regarding visits, please contact visit@sogsakk.fi.
